Welcome back Ally G

Things are stirring in the City of Glasgow Ragazzi world. This match saw the return of Ally Galloway for his first competitive match of the season, and a rematch against Bon Accord. When we travelled to Aberdeen two weeks ago we won 3 – 0 with an excellent performance. In this John Syer Top-Teams-Cup tie we went even better, ruthlessly closing out Bon Accord while winning 25 – 18, 25 – 19, 25-17.

The basis for the win was the quality of the passing to setter Steve Todd, and Todd’s clever use of all of his hitting options. This prevented the Aberdeen boys getting settled, and allowed the home side to play the game at the net. With all of our hitters scoring consistently the game was a one sided affair.

Bon Accord were without Andy McKernan, and that cost them. Bon Accord didn’t pass as well as they usually do and we served really tough, and these things also cost them. But really it was all about how well we focused, how well we controlled the ball, and how tough we played at the net.

It’s been a long time since we beat Bon Accord twice in the same season. It’s also been a while since we won three matches in a row………we worked hard for this win, and we can and will play better, but there’s a feel-good factor that only comes from winning, and at the moment we have it. Next week sees the biggest test of the season so far when we go through to play against the formidable Edinburgh Jets……..but after this win today, and reflecting on how we are playing so far this season, we should be going there with confidence….roll on Saturday!
